Polo trained in Bilbao, Madrid, Cologne, and Basel. Since winning first prize for cello at the Juventudes Musicales de España National Competition his career has garnered numerous awards. He has collaborated as a soloist with some of the leading international orchestras under the baton of conductors such as Pinchas Steinberg, Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos, Juanjo Mena, and Antoni Wit. Composers like Gabriel Erkoreka, Jesús Torres, Luis de Pablo, and Antón García Abril have dedicated their cello concertos to him. Asier Polo modern music with the great classical repertoire, from Bach’s Suites to Dutilleux, Halffter or Gubaidulina. He teaches at Musikene and serves as artistic director of the Faculty of Music and Performing Arts at Alfonso X El Sabio University. Polo plays a Francesco Ruggieri cello (Cremona 1689) donated by the Banco Santander Foundation.
