Nominated for Gramophone’s Artist of the Year 2016, Igor Levit is one of the most relevant pianists of his generation. Born in Nijni Novgorod in 1987, at the age of eight he moved with his family to Germany, where he completed his piano studies at the Hanover University of Music, Drama, and Media. In 2005, he was the youngest participant in the Arthur Rubinstein Competition, winning the Silver Medal, the Audience Favorite Prize, and the Prize for Best Performer of Chamber Music. He has recently performed with the Staatskapelle Dresden (conducted by Christian Thielemann), the Bavarian State Orchestra (Kirill Petrenko), and the London Symphony Orchestra (Fabio Luisi). His latest recital engagements include performing all of Beethoven’s thirty-two sonatas at Wigmore Hall last season and at the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels this season.
